On this 4-year programme, you’ll discover what goes on behind the scenes to make our operations possible. Gain exposure from a variety of our business units as you work towards gaining an Associate Project Management L6 Apprentice Standard, all while becoming a future leader of Royal Mail.  

What you will be doing 

As a Royal Mail Project Management Apprentice, you’ll gain a unique understanding of our business and its function. Crucially, you’ll find out how we improve the customer’s experience across a variety of departments. 

As part of your role, you will 

  • Assist in developing project plans, including defining scope, objectives, timelines, and resource requirements. 
  • Support project managers in organising project activities, coordinating team members, and monitoring progress. 
  • Participate in risk assessments, identify potential issues, and assist in implementing risk mitigation strategies. 
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including meeting minutes, status reports, and project-related data. 
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure project deliverables meet the required quality standards. 

What we’re looking for 

You don’t need to be an expert before you join us, but you need to be passionate about understanding how businesses work and becoming an exceptional project manager. We’re looking for self-motivated people with a good head for numbers, sharp eye for detail and strong organisational skills. 
 
You'll also need to enjoy working in a team and be someone who prides themselves on doing a good job, as efficiently as possible. No matter what experience you have, we're always looking for people who have a strong work ethic, are easy to work with, want to make a difference and learn in a hands-on role. 
 
You could be supporting projects throughout the UK, therefore you need to be flexible and be able to travel to UK locations, which may involve overnight stays, lates, nights and weekend shifts. 

Your apprenticeship 

On the programme, you'll learn the foundations of exceptional project management and work towards Associate Project Management L6 Apprenticeship Standard. That means working alongside senior colleagues to understand how different business areas work, how to improve them, planning projects of all sizes and learning how to make them happen. It's the ideal combination of mentoring, training and on-the-job learning that will give you the experience and skills to build the career you want. 
 
The working week will consist of one day off the job learning for study days (virtual lectures, workshops and seminars) and time to complete assignments and four days ‘on the job’ training supporting various projects.

Starting Salary: £22,500 

Duration: 4 years  

Eligibility: 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or higher (including Maths and English) and you will be required to achieve 3 A-Levels (or equivalent) grade B or above in any subject
